ABOUT THE JOB
The posting describes the steps of an order. The picker obtains a pick ticket from the control desk and scans it with a wearable hand scanner, which lists the number and location of the items to pull for the order. Items are loaded onto a flat cart and/or pallet and transported with a manual pallet jack, and cooler and freezer items are packed in coolers. Completed orders are transferred to the audit area, and approved ones are moved onto trucks for delivery. Among the non-essential functions, the posting adds assisting in other areas of the Business Centre as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow proper Picking department procedures for the performance of duties and paperwork.
- Lift pallets from a low stack, set them on the floor and move them with a manual pallet jack; check manual pallet jacks and pallets and tag any with defects.
- Select items from floor stock to assemble orders, checking that each pull has the correct item and quantity and that the items are in good condition.
- Enlist a forklift driver to drop full pallets from steel shelves for large-quantity item orders, and spot for forklift drivers to keep people out of the fall danger zone.
- Enter the quantity or weight of each item pulled into the wearable hand scanner, noting any approved substitutions and out-of-stock items.
- Check the computer to search for any items not found.
- Use proper lifting techniques and follow all safety and security procedures.
- Provide prompt and courteous member service, and assist in other areas of the Picking department as needed.
WHAT THE POSTING ASKS FOR
- Education/training: a high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Costco Food Safety Certification – Level 1 is required on the first day in the position; Costco Operation of Electric Pallet Jack Certification is an asset.
- Stocker experience is preferred.
- Math skills are required, and computer skills are preferred.
