Working at Dollarama: roles, application process and tips

Dollarama hires for three broad areas: its stores, its distribution centre and warehouses, and its head office in Montreal. Each area has its own application path. This guide explains the roles Dollarama lists on its careers site, how the store application form works, and how to put together a stronger application.

GetJobnify is not affiliated with Dollarama. We do not take applications and cannot tell you whether a store is hiring. Everything below is based on Dollarama’s public pages, listed at the end. If anything here differs from the official site, the official site is correct.

The three areas Dollarama hires for

Stores

Dollarama’s careers page lists five store positions, from entry level to store leadership:

  • Store Associate
  • Assistant Team Leader
  • Team Leader
  • Assistant Store Manager
  • Store Manager

The careers page invites applicants to choose the position they are interested in and then find openings at a location near them. Store openings are tied to a specific store, so it helps to know which locations you can realistically get to. Dollarama’s store finder shows the stores in your area, and the Dollarama postings listed on GetJobnify each name the store they belong to.

Distribution centre and warehouses

Dollarama posts distribution centre and warehouse openings on a separate job site, jobs.dollarama.com. The careers page lists the departments covered by its non-store openings, including logistics, replenishment, warehouses, purchasing, accounting, finance and information technology.

Head office

Head office roles are based in Montreal and are also posted on jobs.dollarama.com, in a separate list from the distribution openings. Because the head office is in Quebec, check each posting for its language requirements.

How the store application works

Store applications are made online, through a form attached to a specific position and store. We reviewed one example: an Assistant Store Manager form for a store in Halifax, Nova Scotia (our listing for that posting links to the official form). Forms for other positions may ask different questions, but this example shows the kind of information to prepare.

What the example form asked for

  • Contact information: first and last name, email and phone number.
  • Preferred language: English or French.
  • Job type: the example offered full-time.
  • Mobility: whether you would be willing to work at other stores, and how far away.
  • Résumé upload: PDF, JPG or DOCX, up to 8 MB.
  • Work eligibility: whether you are legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Experience: whether you have worked at Dollarama before, and how many years of experience you have in retail, in managing employees and in running store operations.
  • Physical tasks and schedule: whether you are comfortable with ladders, climbing and lifting heavy items, and whether you can work the hours the role requires, including evenings and weekends.

The example posting also described the role, its main responsibilities and the experience the company prefers. Read that section carefully: it tells you which parts of your experience to highlight.

The form asks you to confirm that you have read Dollarama’s privacy policy before you submit.

Minimum age

Dollarama’s careers page does not state a minimum age, and the example form did not ask about age. If age matters for you, check the posting or ask the store directly.

Tips for a stronger store application

Keep your résumé short and relevant

For store roles, a one-page résumé is usually enough. Lead with the experience that matches the posting: customer service, cash handling, stocking shelves, keeping a store tidy, or supervising others. If you have not worked in retail before, school, volunteer or other work experience that shows reliability and teamwork still counts.

Because the form accepts PDF, JPG and DOCX files, save your résumé as a PDF if you can. It keeps your formatting intact and is easy to open.

Answer the experience questions accurately

The example form asked for years of experience in specific areas. Count carefully and do not round up. If a manager calls you for an interview, they may ask about those answers.

Think about mobility

The example form asked whether you would be willing to work at other stores. Saying yes may give the employer more flexibility, but only say yes if you can actually get to those stores at the hours you would be scheduled.

Be clear about your availability

Store work often depends on schedule flexibility. The example Assistant Store Manager form asked about availability for evenings and weekends. Know before you apply which days and times you can commit to.

Prepare for physical work

Store work can involve moving stock and using ladders. The example form asked directly about ladders, climbing and heavy lifting. If you need accommodation, raise it with the employer.

Have your SIN ready for when you are hired

You need a Social Insurance Number to work in Canada. If you do not have one yet, the Government of Canada’s SIN page explains how to apply. Do not include your SIN on your résumé.

What Dollarama says about working there

On its careers page, Dollarama lists what it offers employees, including flexible work conditions, pay, benefits, paid training hours, professional development programs, structured performance reviews and opportunities to move up. These are the company’s own descriptions. Details such as pay, benefits eligibility and training vary by role and location, so check the specific posting and ask at the interview.

Some store postings show an hourly pay range. When a posting includes one, it is the most reliable information about pay for that role and store at that time.

Preparing for the interview

If a store contacts you, prepare as you would for any retail interview. The Government of Canada’s Job Bank recommends rehearsing answers about your skills and experience, confirming the time and route, arriving early, bringing copies of your résumé and references, and preparing a few questions of your own.

For Dollarama specifically:

  • Visit the store first. Notice how the shelves are organized and how busy it gets. It gives you concrete things to talk about.
  • Prepare an example of teamwork and one of handling a customer or a problem calmly.
  • For leadership roles, think of a time you trained someone, organized a task or dealt with a difficult situation on a team.

Watch out for employment scams

Dollarama publishes an Employment Fraud Warning, linked from its careers page. It says that neither Dollarama nor any recruitment agency it works with will ask applicants to pay money during recruitment, and that no job offer is made without first meeting the candidate. General rules to protect yourself:

  • Apply only through dollarama.com or jobs.dollarama.com.
  • Never pay anything to apply or to be hired.
  • Be suspicious of offers made without an interview, or sent from personal email addresses or chat apps.
  • Do not send banking details, your SIN or ID to anyone outside the official process.

If you are unsure, contact the store or Dollarama directly using the details on its official website.
