How to apply for a job at Costco Canada (step by step)

Costco Canada takes job applications online, through a careers portal linked from its own website. This guide walks you through the process from start to finish: where to find the real portal, how to search for jobs, what to prepare before you start, and how to follow up without falling for fake recruiters.

GetJobnify is not affiliated with Costco. We do not process applications, and we cannot tell you whether a location is hiring. Everything below is based on Costco’s own public pages, listed at the end of this article. If something here differs from what you see on Costco’s site, trust Costco’s site.

Step 1: Start from Costco’s official jobs page

The safest starting point is the jobs page on costco.ca. It links to the careers portal through its “Apply Now” buttons, and it also groups openings by job family. Starting there, rather than from a search result or a social media ad, helps you make sure you are using the real portal.

At the time of writing, Costco’s careers portal was hosted on a third-party recruiting platform (Cadient Talent), at an address that begins with cta.cadienttalent.com. That is normal for large employers. What matters is that you reached it through a link on costco.ca.

Step 2: Choose a job family or a location

Costco’s jobs page lets you browse openings by job family. The families listed on the page when we checked were:

  • Warehouse – the stores themselves, which Costco calls warehouses
  • Offices
  • Business Centre
  • Depot
  • Contact Centre
  • Bakery Commissary
  • Optical Lab
  • Pharmacy Central Fill

You can also search by location. If you want to work at a specific store, look it up first with Costco’s warehouse locator so you know its exact name and city before you search the portal.

You can also browse the Costco postings listed on GetJobnify, for example this Member Service Assistant posting in Mississauga. Each listing links to the official posting on Costco’s portal, which is where you apply.

Roles with specific requirements

Some roles list their own requirements on the jobs page. For example, Business Centre truck driver roles ask for a valid Class 3, Class D or equivalent provincial commercial driver’s licence with an air brake endorsement. Pharmacy roles (pharmacists and registered technicians) are also featured, and those professions are regulated in each province, so expect to need the licence your province requires.

For most other jobs, the requirements are in the individual posting. Read the whole posting before you apply, not just the title.

Step 3: Prepare your information before you start

Online applications are easier when you have everything ready. Costco’s public pages do not list every field the form asks for, so prepare the basics most employers need:

  • Contact details you check often: a phone number and an email address.
  • Work history: employers, job titles, start and end dates, and what you did in each job.
  • Education and training, including certificates that matter for the role (food safety, forklift, pharmacy licence, driver’s licence class).
  • Availability: the days and hours you can work. Be honest; an availability you cannot keep will cause problems later.
  • A short résumé you can upload or copy from, if the form asks for one.

You will need a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work in Canada. The Government of Canada’s SIN page explains how to apply if you do not have one yet. You do not need to share your SIN in a first application unless the official form clearly asks for it, and you should never send it to someone who contacts you outside the official process.

Minimum age

Costco’s Canadian jobs page does not state a minimum age for applicants. If age matters for you, check the specific posting or contact the warehouse directly.

Step 4: Complete and submit the application

Work through the portal one posting at a time. A few practical tips:

  • Match your answers to the posting. If the posting mentions customer service, stocking or cash handling, describe the experience you have with those tasks in plain language.
  • Use real dates and real job titles. Inconsistencies between your form and your résumé can raise questions.
  • Check spelling in your name, email and phone number. A typo there is the most common reason an employer cannot reach a candidate.
  • Save any confirmation. If the portal shows a confirmation screen or sends an email, keep it.

If you need accommodation

Costco’s jobs page says the company is an equal opportunity employer and provides accommodation to applicants with disabilities throughout recruitment and hiring. If you need a posting in another format, or accommodation during the hiring process, the page says to contact the location where you want to apply.

Step 5: Follow up the right way

After you apply, it is normal to wonder what is happening. Costco’s customer service FAQ says that questions about an application’s status should go to the location you applied to, and that Costco does not send status updates by email or by messaging apps. The warehouse locator lists locations and their phone numbers.

When you call, keep it short: give your name, the position, and the date you applied, then ask whether there is anything else they need from you. Avoid calling repeatedly.

Product sampling jobs are a different employer

The people who hand out product samples in Costco warehouses are employed by Club Demonstration Services (CDS), not directly by Costco, according to Costco’s FAQ. If that is the job you want, apply through CDS rather than the Costco portal.

Step 6: Prepare for the interview

If you are invited to an interview, prepare as you would for any retail interview. The Government of Canada’s Job Bank recommends that you:

  • rehearse answers about your skills, training and experience, and how you have used them;
  • confirm the time and plan your route, arriving early;
  • bring copies of your résumé and your list of references;
  • ask for clarification if you do not understand a question;
  • prepare a few questions that show you have looked into the company and the role;
  • send a thank-you message after the interview, ideally the same day.

Protect yourself from recruitment scams

Costco’s jobs page warns about emails that falsely claim to come from Costco, and its Preventing Fraud page explains more. Some general rules help you stay safe with any employer:

  • Apply only through links you reached from costco.ca.
  • Never pay to apply, to get an interview or to receive a job offer.
  • Be wary of messages that come from personal email addresses or chat apps, or that push you to act quickly.
  • Do not send banking details, your SIN or ID documents to anyone who contacted you outside the official process.

If you are unsure whether a message is genuine, contact the warehouse directly using the phone number on Costco’s locator, not a number given in the suspicious message.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply in person at a Costco warehouse?

Costco’s jobs page directs applicants to apply online. If you want to ask about a specific location, call the warehouse, but plan to submit your application through the portal.

Can I apply to more than one position?

Costco’s public pages do not say whether there is a limit. Apply only to positions you are genuinely qualified and available for, and check the portal for any rules shown during the application.

How long does it take to hear back?

Costco does not publish a timeline. If you have not heard back, contact the location you applied to, as Costco’s FAQ suggests.

Does GetJobnify know which warehouses are hiring?

No. Our job pages link to postings on Costco’s official portal. Postings can close at any time, so always confirm on the portal that a job is still open before you apply.
