ABOUT THE JOB
The Registered Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in dispensing prescriptions, processing transactions, maintaining patient records, and ensuring safe and efficient pharmacy operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists patients at the counter, receives written prescriptions for Pharmacist review, and retrieves filled prescriptions.
- Processes register transactions, including payments, refunds, cheque, credit and debit charges.
- Answers phone calls and routes inquiries to the appropriate person.
- Obtains patient medical history and maintains confidential computer records.
- Inputs prescription information into the pharmacy computer system as permitted by provincial regulations.
- Fills prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, labeling, and pricing prescriptions.
- Complies with provincial regulations for prescription processing under pharmacist supervision.
- Counts, labels, and packages prescriptions, including applying auxiliary labels.
- Verifies prescription information and refills with physicians when necessary.
- Processes third-party insurance claims and resolves discrepancies.
- Orders, receives, logs, and stocks prescription drugs and OTC products.
- Performs department stocking duties and ensures the pharmacy remains clean and organized.
