Costco is hiring a licensed Pharmacy Technician to join its pharmacy team in Brampton, ON. This role is ideal for Registered Pharmacy Technicians who enjoy accurate prescription processing, strong patient service and working in a high-volume community pharmacy environment.
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Pharmacy Technician at Costco, you will support the pharmacist by assisting patients at the counter, processing prescriptions, preparing and packaging medications, and maintaining accurate records in compliance with provincial regulations. You will also help with inventory and third-party billing while ensuring excellent patient confidentiality and safety standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist patients at the counter by receiving written prescriptions, retrieving filled prescriptions and processing register transactions.
- Provide prompt, courteous patient service and answer phones, directing members to the appropriate product location when needed.
- Obtain and update patient medical history and maintain confidential records in the pharmacy system.
- Support the pharmacist by updating patient profiles and entering prescription information as permitted by provincial regulations.
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, labeling, pricing and placing medications into appropriate containers under required supervision and standards.
- Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously assessed for therapeutic appropriateness by the pharmacist, as permitted by regulation.
- Count, label (including auxiliary labels) and package prescriptions accurately using workflow and bin management procedures.
- Alert the pharmacist to potential drug interactions or concerns identified in prescription or over-the-counter medications.
- Verify prescriptions and refills with prescribers by phone when required and accept verbal prescriptions where permitted; assist with generic substitutions when appropriate.
- Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices and enter accounting information using the computerized system.
- Order, receive, tag and stock prescription drugs, supplies and over-the-counter products following proper storage procedures and merchandising standards.
- Create product signs and support department stocking duties; help ensure the pharmacy area remains clean and organized.
- Follow all Costco Pharmacy policies, safety and security procedures at all times.
- Assist other warehouse areas as needed.
