Costco is hiring a Pharmacy Student in Calgary, AB. This role is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy community pharmacy while supporting prescription workflow, member service, and health promotion initiatives under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Pharmacy Student at Costco, you will assist with drug distribution and day-to-day pharmacy operations, including prescription order entry, packaging, and supporting clinical initiatives such as immunization services and medication reviews where applicable. You will also help members at the counter, answer questions about prescriptions and over-the-counter products, and ensure pharmacy procedures are followed—always maintaining patient confidentiality and working within provincial regulations and your competency level.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answer and triage member phone calls and direct members to the correct pharmacy area.
- Collect appropriate patient information and enter prescriptions into the pharmacy software system under pharmacist supervision.
- Support prescription filling by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, and labeling as permitted and supervised.
- Follow safety and security procedures while completing all pharmacy-related duties.
- Alert the pharmacist to potential issues such as drug interactions or patient concerns.
- Comply with provincial regulations related to the pharmacy student role and maintain confidentiality.
- Follow Costco Pharmacy policies and procedures consistently.
- Assist members at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and help process register transactions as required.
- Provide prompt and courteous patient service in a member-focused environment.
- Communicate with patients about OTC products and answer questions under pharmacist supervision.
- Provide basic prescription counselling support under the direction of the pharmacist when permitted by regulation and competency.
- Identify and recruit eligible patients for medication review programs and assist the pharmacist with these services.
- Help stock drugs, pharmacy supplies, and over-the-counter merchandise.
- Support pharmacy organization and cleanliness to keep the work area efficient and compliant.
- Assist the pharmacist with Health Promotion Clinics and other clinical initiatives as required.
- Assist in other areas of the warehouse as needed.
