Costco is hiring a Pharmacist for its warehouse pharmacy in Calgary, AB. This role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care, dispensing medications, and providing clinical services in a busy, member-focused pharmacy environment.
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Pharmacist at Costco, you will practice to the full extent of provincial regulations, providing direct patient care, dispensing prescription medications, and educating patients on proper medication use. You will work closely with Pharmacy Technicians, Students, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy operations while maintaining confidentiality and patient safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dispense prescription medications and apply appropriate auxiliary labels.
- Review prescription and over-the-counter medications for therapeutic appropriateness, including potential interactions, allergies, contraindications, and dosage accuracy.
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone and accept verbal prescriptions when permitted.
- Select therapeutic substitutions when appropriate and in accordance with regulations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient medical records.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to resolve drug therapy issues.
- Educate patients on proper medication usage, side effects, and over-the-counter products.
- Work collaboratively with Registered Pharmacy Technicians to allocate workflow effectively.
- Recruit patients for and conduct health and wellness clinics where permitted.
- Adapt, extend, and modify prescriptions under delegation or collaboration agreements where allowed.
- Administer medications by injection where permitted by provincial regulations.
- Conduct full medication reviews, medication reconciliation, and follow-up as required.
- Order and communicate laboratory tests to the extent permitted.
- Promote a culture of patient safety and manage prescription incidents appropriately.
- Maintain professional competence through continuing education and required certifications.
- Follow all Costco Pharmacy policies, procedures, safety, and security standards.
- Act as Pharmacist-in-Charge in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager and supervise pharmacy interns and students.
- Assist with other assigned duties as required.
