ABOUT THE JOB
As a Pharmacist at Costco, you will provide direct patient care by dispensing prescription medications, offering clinical advice, and educating patients on proper medication use. You will practice to the full scope permitted by provincial regulations, collaborate with healthcare professionals, and help ensure safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy operations while maintaining patient confidentiality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dispense prescription medications accurately and apply appropriate auxiliary labels.
- Review prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for therapeutic appropriateness, interactions, allergies, contraindications, and correct dosage.
- Verify prescriptions and refills with prescribers when required and accept verbal prescriptions where permitted.
- Collect and maintain patient medical histories and ensure confidentiality of pharmacy records.
- Provide clear counselling to patients on medication use, side effects, and general health questions.
- Collaborate with Registered Pharmacy Technicians to allocate workflow effectively.
- Conduct health and wellness clinics and document interventions as permitted by provincial regulations.
- Adapt, extend, or modify prescriptions and perform delegated acts within the pharmacist’s scope of practice.
- Administer medications and injections when authorized by provincial regulations.
- Perform medication reviews, medication reconciliation, and follow-up care as permitted.
- Order and communicate laboratory tests within the authorized scope of practice.
- Participate in patient safety initiatives and incident reporting to reduce medication errors.
- Maintain professional competence through continuing education and required certifications.
- Follow all Costco Pharmacy policies, systems, procedures, and safety/security standards.
- Act as Pharmacist-in-Charge when required in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager.
