Costco is hiring a Pharmacist for its pharmacy in Burnaby, BC. This role is ideal for a patient-focused pharmacist who enjoys a busy community setting, supports safe dispensing, and provides clear medication education while working closely with a pharmacy team.
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Pharmacist at Costco, you will provide professional patient care by dispensing prescription medications, reviewing therapy for appropriateness, and supporting members with counselling and education. You’ll work within provincial regulations and Costco Pharmacy standards, collaborate with other health professionals when needed, and contribute to a strong culture of patient safety and confidentiality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dispense prescription medications and apply appropriate auxiliary labels in accordance with pharmacy standards.
- Assess prescriptions and over-the-counter therapies for appropriateness, including screening for interactions, allergies, contraindications, dose, frequency and dosage form.
- Verify and process prescriptions and refills, communicating with prescribers by phone as needed and taking verbal prescriptions when applicable.
- Select therapeutic substitutions when appropriate and permitted.
- Maintain and protect confidential patient records and patient medical history documentation.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to identify and resolve drug therapy problems and support optimal outcomes.
- Provide prompt, courteous patient care and answer questions about medications and OTC products.
- Work with Registered Pharmacy Technicians to ensure tasks are assigned appropriately and workflow runs efficiently.
- Recruit patients for health and wellness services and document interventions where permitted by provincial regulations.
- Administer medications by injection when permitted by provincial regulations.
- Conduct medication reviews, including medication history and reconciliation, and provide follow-up within scope of practice.
- Order and communicate laboratory tests to the extent permitted by provincial regulations.
- Support patient safety by reporting and managing incidents appropriately and following established procedures.
- Maintain professional competence through continuing education and required certifications.
- Follow Costco Pharmacy policies, systems and procedures and all safety and security requirements.
- Act as Pharmacist-in-Charge in the absence of the pharmacy manager to support smooth dispensary operations and supervise interns/students.
- Assist with other assigned duties as needed.
