Costco is hiring a dependable and hands-on Maintenance Assistant to support cleaning and general upkeep at its Optical Lab in Burnaby, BC. ABOUT THE JOB
As a Maintenance Assistant at Costco, you will provide janitorial services and general upkeep across the Optical Lab and surrounding areas to meet company standards and protect employees and equipment. You will clean floors and common areas, restock supplies, operate trash and cardboard compactors and support basic grounds maintenance while following safety and security procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Check the daily schedule and prioritize routine cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Clean floors in offices, break rooms, restrooms, production areas and other facility spaces.
- Change scrubber water frequently to help keep dust and debris to a minimum.
- Empty trash from designated areas and dispose of waste according to site procedures.
- Operate trash and cardboard compactors safely and in line with security protocols.
- Follow location standards and procedures for completing duties, including safety and security requirements.
- Respond quickly to spills and clean up hazards to maintain a safe work environment.
- Clean light fixtures regularly and replace light bulbs as required.
- Wash windows, upper walls and ceilings; vacuum rafters periodically when scheduled.
- Assist with grounds maintenance such as blowing leaves, picking up litter and performing roof checks.
- Participate in snow and ice removal when needed to keep entrances and walkways safe.
- Assist with painting and perform basic concrete floor repairs throughout the lab as required.
- Monitor cleaning supplies and restock as needed; receive and place merchandise in the appropriate department when required.
- Follow proper Optical Lab safety and security procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Provide prompt and courteous service to members, employees and suppliers; follow submission procedures for pieces or other requests.
- Use internal systems as required (e.g., maintenance tracking) and support store inventory tasks when assigned.
- Perform internal and external purchases related to supplies when required by the role.
- Assist in other areas of the Optical Lab and warehouse as needed.
