ABOUT THE JOB
As a Loss Prevention Clerk at Costco, you will monitor safety and security concerns, observe and report suspicious activity, and support investigations related to internal or external theft. You’ll complete reports, maintain evidence and files, and work closely with warehouse leadership and, when necessary, local law enforcement. This role also includes educating team members on loss prevention procedures and helping identify opportunities to reduce shrink.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Walk the warehouse and perimeter for extended periods to monitor safety and security concerns.
- Observe, detect, prevent, and respond to theft-related activity within the warehouse.
- Detain and interview suspected shoplifters when warranted and according to procedures.
- Report suspected internal dishonesty to warehouse leadership and regional loss prevention for approval to investigate.
- Document and report theft incidents and potential security hazards to management.
- Identify and report shrink reduction opportunities within warehouse operations.
- Prepare written reports for internal use and for potential prosecution when required.
- Maintain evidence collected and keep accurate investigation files and documentation.
- Testify in court regarding theft investigations when required.
- Follow Costco procedures and applicable laws while performing loss prevention duties.
- Attend meetings and training sessions related to loss prevention and safety.
- Teach and coach loss prevention topics, policies, and procedures to warehouse team members.
- Communicate with other Costco Loss Prevention staff and area warehouses to share information about trends and local threats.
- Assist in other areas of the warehouse as required.
