ABOUT THE JOB
As a Loss Prevention Clerk at Costco, you will help prevent internal and external theft by monitoring activity, identifying suspicious behaviour, and reporting safety or security hazards. You may support investigations, document incidents, maintain evidence, and communicate with warehouse leadership and, when required, local law enforcement. The role involves regular walking of the warehouse and perimeter and following strict procedures and applicable laws.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Walk the warehouse and perimeter throughout the shift to monitor safety and security conditions.
- Observe, identify, and help deter potential theft or security concerns in and around the warehouse.
- Detect, document, and report incidents of suspected shoplifting or internal dishonesty following procedures.
- Detain and interview suspected shoplifters when warranted and in accordance with policy and applicable laws.
- Report potential theft situations to warehouse leadership and escalate when required for approval to investigate.
- Identify and communicate opportunities to reduce shrink and improve loss prevention practices.
- Prepare written reports for internal use and, when needed, for potential prosecution.
- Maintain evidence and detailed documentation related to investigations.
- Work with management, other loss prevention staff, and local law enforcement as required.
- Attend meetings/training and maintain knowledge of Costco procedures and relevant legislation.
- Coach and support warehouse team members on loss prevention awareness and best practices.
- Assist in other areas of the warehouse as needed.
