Costco is hiring a Cake Decorator in Calgary, AB. This role is ideal for someone with cake decorating experience who enjoys working in a high-volume bakery, creating attractive cakes, and maintaining strong quality and food safety standards.
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Cake Decorator at Costco, you will frost and finish cakes using spatulas, pastry bags, and tips, decorate cakes for sales floor stock, and prepare special orders when required. You’ll slice and handle cakes safely, apply fillings and toppings, create borders and designs, and package products for display. This position also supports cleanliness and organization in the decorating area while following Costco formulas and department procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Slice half-sheet cakes using a knife or slicing machine and place cakes on pads for handling.
- Apply fillings between cake layers and frost cakes using spatulas and approved techniques.
- Garnish cakes by hand and fill pastry bags by scooping mixed frosting from bowls or buckets.
- Squeeze and twist pastry bags with various tips to create borders, figures, and decorative patterns.
- Follow Costco formulas and department procedures to maintain consistent quality and appearance.
- Read member special orders and prepare cakes to requested flavors, colors, and designs when required.
- Contact members if needed when instructions are unclear to confirm order details.
- Remove cheesecakes from baking pans, place on cake pads, and apply toppings as required.
- Use a whipping cream machine where needed for product finishing.
- Slice and prepare fresh fruit for use as cake decorations.
- Assemble pre-cut cardboard cake boxes and package cakes for display and sales.
- Move finished cakes and boxed products on wheeled racks to coolers, freezers, or wrapping areas.
- Keep the decorating area clean and clear of debris while following safety and security procedures.
- Provide prompt and courteous member service when interacting with members in the bakery area.
- Assist with other bakery duties as needed and support overall department workflow.
- Assist in other areas of the warehouse as required.
