Costco is hiring a creative and detail-oriented Cake Decorator to join its bakery team in Burnaby, BC. ABOUT THE JOB
As a Cake Decorator at Costco, you will frost, fill and decorate cakes, write messages, create borders and designs, and prepare products for sale according to Costco formulas and bakery procedures. You’ll also handle special orders, help with packaging and ensure the decorating area remains clean, safe and organized while meeting quality and food safety standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Slice half-sheet cakes by hand using an approved knife or with a slicing machine and place cakes on pre-cut cardboard pads for handling.
- Apply filling between layers and frost cakes using a spatula, ensuring smooth, consistent finishes.
- Fill pastry bags by scooping mixed frostings from bowls or buckets and prepare tips/tools for decorating.
- Create borders, figures, patterns and writing on cakes using pastry bags and various tips, following Costco formulas and department standards.
- Review member special orders to confirm flavours, colours, decorative patterns and personalized messages.
- Contact members by phone when clarification is needed for special order instructions.
- Remove cheesecakes from baking pans, place on cake pads and apply toppings and garnishes according to Costco formulas.
- Use a whipping cream machine safely when preparing toppings and finishes.
- Slice fresh fruit when required for application to baked products and cake decorations.
- Assemble pre-cut cardboard cake boxes, box finished cakes and place them on wheeled racks for transport.
- Transfer racks to cooler, freezer or wrapping areas as required to maintain product freshness.
- Keep the decorating area clean and clear of debris; follow safety and security procedures at all times.
- Assist with other bakery duties as needed and support other warehouse areas when required.
- Provide prompt and courteous member service when interacting with members.
