ABOUT THE JOB
As a Cake Decorator at Costco, you will frost and decorate cakes, write messages, and prepare cakes for display and special orders. You’ll use decorating tools such as pastry bags and tips, follow established Costco formulas and department procedures, and help keep the decorating area clean, organized, and ready for production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Frost, decorate, and finish cakes using spatulas, pastry bags, and decorating tips.
- Write messages on cakes as requested for sales stock and special orders.
- Slice cakes using a knife or slicer and place products on cake pads for handling and packaging.
- Apply fillings between layers and garnish cakes by hand to meet presentation standards.
- Prepare and fill pastry bags by scooping mixed frostings from bowls or buckets.
- Squeeze and twist frosting-filled pastry bags to create consistent patterns and finishes.
- Read and follow special order instructions (flavours, colours, and personalized writing) and clarify details when needed.
- Remove cheesecakes from baking pans, add toppings, and garnish according to Costco formulas.
- Use commercial bakery equipment such as a whipping cream machine when required.
- Slice and prepare fresh fruit for use on decorated products.
- Assemble pre-cut cardboard cake boxes, box finished cakes, and move product to cooler/freezer/wrapping areas as needed.
- Maintain a clean decorating area and follow safety, food handling, and security procedures.
- Provide prompt and courteous member service and assist with other bakery duties as required.
