Costco is hiring a Registered Pharmacy Technician in Burnaby, BC. This role supports prescription processing, patient/member service, inventory updates, and pharmacy operations while following provincial regulations and Costco pharmacy standards.
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Registered Pharmacy Technician at Costco, you will assist with dispensing workflows, prescription entry support, register transactions, packaging verification, and maintaining accurate patient records and inventory. You’ll work closely with the pharmacist and pharmacy team to ensure safe, efficient service and compliance with applicable regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist patients at the counter, receive written prescriptions, retrieve filled prescriptions, and process register transactions.
- Receive payments, make change, and process cheques, credit, and debit charges.
- Answer phones and direct members to the appropriate product location.
- Obtain patient medical history and maintain confidential computer records.
- Assist the pharmacist in updating patient profiles and entering prescription information into the pharmacy computer as permitted by provincial regulations.
- Preserve patient confidentiality at all times.
- Fill prescriptions by bringing stock bottles and counting medications into appropriate containers; label and price prescriptions under pharmacist supervision as permitted.
- Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously checked for therapeutic appropriateness by the pharmacist, as permitted by provincial regulations.
- Count, label (including auxiliary labels), and package prescriptions, including workflow and bin management.
- Alert the pharmacist to drug interactions in prescription and over-the-counter medications.
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone as needed and take verbal prescriptions as permitted; select generic substitutions when necessary.
- Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and make accounting entries using the computerized system.
- Order, receive, tag, and stock prescription drugs, supplies, and over-the-counter products following storage procedures, standards, and merchandising plans.
- Perform department stocking duties as well as OTC roaming; create product signs and ensure the department is clean.
- Assist in other areas of the warehouse as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
- Completed provincial Pharmacy Technician certification or completed a Pharmacy Technician course at a Community College and the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada (PEBC) Qualifying Exam.
- Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing in the province of work.
- Current Costco Pharmacy experience is an asset (preference may be given).
- Computer, math, and member service skills preferred.
PAY
- $29.00 – $41.40 per hour (hourly, as listed).
