Costco is hiring a qualified Optician to join its Optical department in Brampton, ON. This role is ideal for licensed professionals who enjoy helping members select eyewear, processing optical orders and providing accurate fittings and adjustments in a high-volume retail setting.
ABOUT THE JOB
As an Optician at Costco, you will assist members with frames, lenses, sunglasses and contact lenses while ensuring orders are processed accurately and in compliance with provincial regulations. You will measure and fit eyewear, support contact lens services where applicable and maintain excellent member service standards throughout the optical department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist members in selecting eyeglass frames, lenses, sunglasses and contact lens options suitable for their prescription.
- Provide prompt, accurate and courteous service while answering questions about products, warranties and basic care.
- Support members with booking doctor appointments when required by the department process.
- Measure pupillary distance (PD) accurately using approved tools such as a pupilometer or ruler.
- Determine appropriate multifocal and bifocal fitting heights and placement based on member needs.
- Assess fit and comfort, adjust frames using a frame warmer and manual adjustments to ensure proper alignment.
- Check completed eyeglasses and contact lens orders against the prescription prior to dispensing to members.
- Conduct contact lens-related support and fitting assistance within scope of practice and certifications.
- Enter orders into the computer system, process payments and complete paperwork following cash handling procedures.
- Place special orders with outside vendors and receive orders, maintaining accurate documentation.
- Order and stock optical merchandise and supplies; maintain proper product organization and storage.
- Maintain appropriate levels of contact lens trials and related optical supplies.
- Keep displays and the optical department clean by spraying, wiping and maintaining a professional environment.
- Support and oversee apprentices/students as required for certification or qualification processes.
- Maintain licensing and good standing with the applicable provincial regulatory body.
- Assist other warehouse areas as needed.
