Costco is hiring a Registered Pharmacy Technician in Calgary, AB. In this role, you’ll support prescription processing and member service while working within provincial standards and Costco Pharmacy procedures in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Registered Pharmacy Technician at Costco, you will assist the pharmacist with the safe and accurate preparation and dispensing of prescriptions. You’ll support patients at the counter, process transactions, help maintain patient records, and complete key workflow steps such as counting, labeling, packaging, and managing bin organization. You may also assist with insurance claims, invoices, inventory, and over-the-counter (OTC) merchandising. Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and a service-first attitude are essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist patients at the counter, receive written prescriptions for the pharmacist, and retrieve filled prescriptions for pickup.
- Process register transactions, including cash and credit/debit payments, and provide receipts.
- Answer phones and direct members to the correct pharmacy location or service area.
- Maintain confidential patient records and help obtain and record patient medical history as required.
- Assist with entering prescription information into the pharmacy system as permitted by provincial regulations.
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications into appropriate containers, labeling, and pricing prescriptions in accordance with policy and regulation.
- Complete packaging verification steps for prescriptions previously checked for therapeutic appropriateness by the pharmacist, where permitted.
- Count, label (including auxiliary labels), and package prescriptions while supporting workflow and bin management.
- Alert the pharmacist to potential drug interactions or patient concerns related to prescriptions and OTC medications.
- Support prescription verification processes and help coordinate refills and physician communication as needed, within scope.
- Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and complete accounting entries using computerized systems.
- Order, receive, tag, and stock prescription drugs, pharmacy supplies, and OTC products following storage standards.
- Support department merchandising and product signage, including OTC organization.
- Perform assigned Department 93 duties (pharmacy operations) and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Assist in other areas of the warehouse as required.
